Our Story

As high school students, our founders found themselves in love with science, wanting to take the skills learned in classrooms and use them in real-world applications. To them, this meant learning about research. However, the process of navigating through the world is daunting, and especially for those that are completely new to the field.

As the founders entered university, they became enlightened (lumos!) with the newfound knowledge and skills they became equipped with. One founder reflected back on her high school days and wished to share this knowledge with other high school students, and shared this idea with her friends. This quickly resulted in a four person team, and within the course of a school year, they created a mission to gather a team and put together a three-part series of modules to present at their alumni schools.

From going absolutely bananas in breaking down a research paper for the first module, the backbone of the series, to pointing out life hacks for reading through research papers and writing abstracts, the series of modules were a success in equipping high schoolers with skills to begin reading and writing research papers.

The first two years have been a success, and we hope to keep branching out the club in the years to come.

So, who were these founders? You may wonder who we are after reading so much about us. The truth is, we go by many names, but most commonly we are referred to as the following…

  • Rowena Ravenclaw, the one who had the idea for the organization, also known as Anindita Mullick

  • Godric Gryffindor, the one who guided our mission towards teaching students, also known as Michelle Fang

  • Helga Hufflepuff, the one with a passion for science education and making puns, also known as Apurva Raghu

  • Salazar Slytherin, the one who is amazing at graphic design and randomly picking students, also known as Dora Song

Oh… and they were roommates. Two pairs of roommates. Oh my god they were roommates.
